Untitled (La Era de la Sinceridad) , 2013
Unique Mixed Media Painting
62 x 42 in
157 x 76 cm
Unique painting (mixed media including oil paint, oil stick, aluminum foil and dirt) on paper (utilizing pre-existing advertising and newspaper). In beautiful artist designed copper frame.
Spectacular unique mixed media painting. "Untitled (La Era de la Sinceridad)" is a quintessential work from Oscar Murillo's series of paintings referencing his childhood in Columbia. In this context, Murillo has noted that, because his father was a mechanic in a sugar cane factory and his mother worked for a candy factory, “we had a sweet life!” The image of Vita Coco, a subtle reference to migration and/or commercial exploitation is invigorated with his now signature “contamination process.” Enigmatic text stretches over the advertising image, in a style reminiscent of Basquiat.
Murillo has been the subject of solo exhibitions at David Zwirner, NY; The Mistake Room, Los Angeles; Marian Goodman Gallery, Paris; Carlos Ishikawa, London; South London Gallery; MAMA Showroom, Rotterdam; Isabella Bortolozzi Galerie, Berlin; Serpentine Gallery, London, amongst others.
Provenance: Galerie Carlos/Ishikawa, London; Collection of Bibi Gritti, Geneva, Switzerland. SOLD
