Lincoln Center Ticket , 1967

Screenprint on Opaque Acrylic
45 x 24 in
114 x 61 cm

Signed, dated, and numbered on verso using an engraving needle. Edition 95/200. Publisher: Leo Castelli Gallery, NY; Printer: Chiron Press, NY.

A clean bright impression of Warhol’s Lincoln Center ticket on opaque acrylic, printed by Chiron Press. This is an iconic, wonderful oversized Pop interpretation of an entry ticket celebrating the fifth New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center, NYC, held from September 20 – 30, 1967. The edition of this poster was limited to 200 impressions, which were signed and numbered by the artist using an engraving tool on the verso of each print. A very unique use of handwork appears in this special edition run - a perforated line runs across the surface of the print, at its triangular cut out sides, mimicking the tear line present in commercial admissions tickets. Chiron Press devised a special process to imprint the edition with this perforation using a die cut stamp. It is also interesting to note that this work has a "Kulicke" Frame label (see alternate image) and is on the back of its original frame; Kulicke labels are found on many of the original frames used for pop pieces in the late 60s.
