A reproduction of Lichtenstein's painting entitled "As I Opened Fire" (1964), this prints' subject matter is inspired by Jerry Grandenetti's panels for DC Comics' All American Men of War, No. 90 (1962). Featuring a short few seconds during an aircraft battle, Lichtenstein altered the original narrative to improve its formal coherence. Despite the varying skies, the cinematic flow is seen through the successive tighter views of the gun nozzles in action, accompanied by an onomatopoeia. Lichtenstein chose teen and action comics as his subjects because he valued the impersonal quality of their artwork, products of teams of illustrators.
